Apanai Mosque
The Apanaev Mosque ("Second Cathedral", "Bayskaya") was built in 1768-1769 with the personal permission of Catherine II, who pursued a policy of religious tolerance. The mosque is located in the very historical heart of Kazan – the Old Tatar Settlement and is a monument of federal significance.
Description
The first imam of the restored and rebuilt mosque was Valiulla Hazrat Yakupov (1961-2012), who was a well-known religious and public figure, and the founder of the publishing house "Iman". Since December 2013, the imam-khatib of the mosque has been Niyaz Hazrat Sabirov, who continued the work started by Valiulla Hazrat. Within the framework of Sunday courses on the basics of Islam, groups for adults and children have been created in the mosque. In these courses, listeners are taught the basics of Islam, Quran reading, and the Arabic language. During the summer holidays, moral lessons are held in the mosque for school-age children. Children study the basics and moral principles of Islam. In addition to classes for young Muslims, cultural events are organized to introduce national traditions, meet famous people, and various master classes are held. Children also play sports games, participate in contests and quizzes. The mosque also operates the teahouse "Kunaklar", decorated in the national style.
