The 8th Turkish-Arab Artists Gathering began at the Rami Library in Istanbul under the theme “Colors Draw Stories.” The event, which aims to strengthen cultural and artistic ties between Turkey and the Arab world, presented works of painting, calligraphy, and handicrafts for visitors to admire.
As part of the program, artist talks, seminars, cultural presentations, musical performances, and meet-ups with artists will also be held.
Emphasis on friendship and civilization in opening speeches
Speaking at the opening, Metin Turan, President of the Turkish-Arab Association, emphasized that art is a universal bridge that transcends language, religion, and nationality. Turan said, “We aim to further strengthen this bridge between Turkey and the Arab world. Another goal of ours is to organize gatherings with artists who came to our country after the Arab Spring and foster cohesion.”
Director of the Rami Library Ali Çelik drew attention to the fact that the gathering took place in the atmosphere of a historic venue, saying, “Turks and Arabs are not two separate nations; they are the main founding elements of Islamic civilization. There is a great need for efforts that will nurture communication and friendship between these two core elements.” Çelik noted that artists bear a significant responsibility in this dialogue, and that they would continue to support efforts to make artists’ works visible.
Speaking on behalf of Turkish artists, illuminator Zeynep Seyhun stated that she has been working in the field of traditional arts for 21 years and is participating in the event with her work “Cover of the Kaaba Door.” Seyhun said, “There is truly great effort and hard work behind this program. With the unifying power of art, we will experience Turkish-Arab friendship together here over two days.”
The 8th Turkish-Arab Artists Gathering, whose opening was also attended by Latifa Mohamed Jelassi, President of the Tunisian Visual Artists Association, can be visited over two days. This year, in addition to Turkey, artists from Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, Palestine, Kuwait, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman participated.
