Aliyu Misau, who represents Bauchi State in the House of Representatives, has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Movement (APM).
The switch was formalized with a resignation letter sent to the Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, and was read during the General Assembly on Wednesday.
In his letter, Misau stated that the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP made it difficult for him to effectively represent his constituents and contribute to development efforts.
The lawmaker expressed gratitude to his former party for the opportunity to serve the people of the Misau/Dambam Federal Constituency but said that under the current circumstances, continuing his work under the same party was not possible.
This departure is seen as part of a broader political realignment in Bauchi. The report noted that following the state governor Bala Mohammed’s move from PDP to APM, several politicians and party affiliates have either taken similar steps or are open to such a transition.
The PDP’s losses in the House of Representatives have deepened with this development. The party has faced a series of resignations and defections recently due to internal disputes and factional divisions.
On the APM side, Misau’s move is viewed as a step that strengthens the party’s political presence in Bauchi State. The party is expanding its base with an increasing influx of politicians and elected officials originally from the PDP.
