Beşiktaş fans lost their excitement after developments in the transfer of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah. The emergence of his agent’s financial demands dampened transfer expectations in the black-and-white community.
Beşiktaş made a fast start to the summer transfer window by appointing Italian coach Vincenzo Italiano. The black-and-whites had begun efforts to build a squad capable of contending for the Süper Lig title and competing strongly in the Europa League.
As part of this, Belgian winger Leandro Trossard from Arsenal, German goalkeeper Alexander Nübel and Turkish national midfielder Salih Özcan were signed. Trossard stands out as a player who has won the English Premier League and featured in a Champions League final.
After Salah left Liverpool, the Beşiktaş management placed the Egyptian star on their transfer list. It was claimed that sporting director Önder Özen and coach Italiano agreed on the technical aspects of the transfer, but talks could not be completed because of financial demands attributed to the player’s agent.
Fans had shown strong support for the transfer with pro-Salah chants during Trossard’s signing ceremony at Tüpraş Stadium. However, after claims about the agent’s demands circulated, many fans began to remain cautious.
On social media, supporters praised Beşiktaş president Serdal Adalı and expressed that the club’s interests were being protected. Some fans said they still wanted to see Salah in the black-and-white jersey but that his agent’s demands were unacceptable.
"His agent’s demands are unacceptable. The club management is right to abandon the transfer."
While no official statement has been made from the Beşiktaş camp, the transfer’s future remains uncertain.
