A fire broke out at the children's playground in Gözcüler Neighborhood, Arsuz district of Hatay. The flames quickly spread, making the playground equipment and play structures unusable.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene following reports from residents who noticed the fire. Their intervention prevented the flames from spreading further.
After the fire, a significant part of the park lost its functionality. The extent of the damage became clearer with the first light of day.
Residents Call for Precautions
Neighborhood residents demanded necessary safety measures to protect the children. The community called for stricter precautions to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
Residents stated that the same park had been set on fire before. While initial assessments suggest the fire may have been deliberately set, investigations will clarify whether it was intentional.
Nimet Tümkaya, who brings her children to the park daily, called for those responsible to be identified. She expressed that the children were negatively affected by the incident and could no longer spend time in the park.
Primary school students Asel Akça and Eylül Horoz, who use the park every day after school, said they were saddened by what happened. They explained that they can no longer play with their friends in the park, which used to have slides and play areas.
Nimet Tümkaya also noted that swings had been burned in the park previously and expressed her frustration over the repeated incidents. Spending most of the day at the park with her family, she said the children were psychologically affected as well.
Residents expect authorities to both repair the damaged area and take measures to prevent similar events. The fire at the park has brought the safety of shared spaces used by children back into focus.
