Efforts to extinguish forest fires in Bulgaria and Bosnia and Herzegovina are continuing.
The fire in Bulgaria
A forest fire broke out across approximately 10,000 decares between the villages of Dinevo, Lyubenovo, Malevo and Krivo Pole in the city of Haskovo.
Fourteen firefighting crews, as well as soldiers, forestry workers and volunteers, are battling the fire.
Bulgaria’s Ministry of Defence announced that the fire started at an illegal landfill near the village of Dinevo before spreading to dry grass, shrubs and forested areas. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
The fire does not currently pose a threat to residential areas.
The fires in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Firefighters are battling a fire that started yesterday afternoon in the western part of the Trebević area in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mountain rescue and forestry crews are also taking part in the firefighting efforts.
The difficult terrain is hampering the crews’ work. The flames have reached the edge of the forested area but do not pose a threat to residential areas or any structures.
Efforts to fight a fire in the city of Trebinje in the south of the country are also continuing. Helicopters operated by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Ministry of Defence are supporting the firefighting efforts in the area.
