Assessment of extraordinary general assembly
Çakmak from Gençlerbirliği Club emphasized that the extraordinary general assembly on the agenda was a process with no need in terms of time and meaning. Pointing to disagreements within the management, Çakmak said, 'The right thing would have been for the friends to resign and save Gençlerbirliği from this general assembly process.'
Stating that attendance at the general assembly was limited to about 750 people, Çakmak rejected claims that thousands of new members were made. 'Of the 750, 300-400 were old members, 300-400 were new delegates. We did not make new members except for one or two select friends of the people we will take to the new management,' he said.
Transfer plans take shape
Çakmak expressed that they want to add goalkeeper İrfan Can Eğribayat, who wears a Fenerbahçe jersey, to their squad but are still waiting for a response from Fenerbahçe Sports Club. 'Our coach wants him, and the player also wants to come to us. If Fenerbahçe finds it appropriate, we will carry out this transfer,' he said.
Stating that they are considering using the only vacancy in the foreign quota for the center-forward position, Çakmak said, 'Due to the 10+4 rule, we want to use our foreign right at center-forward. Our negotiations continue simultaneously for the center-forward, goalkeeper, and left wing positions.' He conveyed that with the completion of these three transfers, they would reach 12-13 ready players in the squad, then with a few additional moves they aim to increase the number to 15-16 and fill the rest with academy and PAF team players to enter the league without problems.
The only concrete step in transfers was taken in the left-back position. Çakmak said they completed the Kevin Rodrigues transfer just before the general assembly decision, with the insistence of head coach Metin Diyadin, and noted that other procedures would accelerate from Monday.
Sponsorship nearing conclusion
Expressing that the general assembly process also disrupted sponsorship agreements, Çakmak confessed, 'We could not sign any sponsorship agreements, we could not make player transfers,' while saying there is serious goodwill towards the club in Ankara. 'Several companies want to be name, jersey, and stadium sponsors. We aim to quickly conclude negotiations this week and complete them before August,' he concluded.
