Turkish defense industry company HAVELSAN is increasing its contributions to NATO's technological infrastructure. The company's General Manager Mehmet Akif Nacar, speaking at the Defense Industry Forum held as part of the 36th NATO Leaders' Summit in Ankara, said they expect technology transfers to alliance countries to expand in the coming years.
Nacar noted that HAVELSAN develops simulation technologies, command and control systems, cybersecurity, military software, and system integration solutions. He said these products are tailored to the needs of modern battlefields and are produced for the Turkish Armed Forces and international partners.
The company signed its first contract with NATO last year. Following the export of network planning software for a tactical data link management center, HAVELSAN products receive accreditation certificates each year at the CWIX exercises, which test interoperability among NATO countries.
Nacar also disclosed that HAVELSAN is running a surveillance system project for a country's coast guard in the Black Sea. He also noted that they are providing training and simulation systems for the Hürjet project, which TUSAŞ is jointly conducting with Spain.
Emphasizing that future combat management systems will rely on artificial intelligence technologies, Nacar said the company has developed a closed AI system for defense purposes. He noted that this system analyzes radar, sensor, and weapon data to provide decision support and can autonomously perform certain tasks. Nacar said, "These technologies are attracting increasing interest within NATO. HAVELSAN continues to develop solutions aligned with the alliance's programs."
The 36th NATO Leaders' Summit, held in Ankara on Tuesday and Wednesday, kicked off with the Defense Industry Forum, which focused on transatlantic production and investments.
