The Makkah Route initiative, launched by Saudi Arabia, improves the travel experience of pilgrims going from Turkey to the holy lands with advanced technology and coordinated ground services. In the process that started at Istanbul Airport, pilgrims' luggage is electronically tagged with a smart coding system and linked to their personal data and accommodation information. Thus, the luggage is delivered directly to the pilgrims' accommodation places in Mecca and Medina, eliminating the need to collect luggage upon arrival.
Operated by Saudi Post, this system reduces pilgrims' waiting times and physical burdens, allowing them to focus more quickly on their worship. Additionally, Saudi expert staff working at the airport complete procedures in passport, logistics, and IT fields to prevent possible congestion upon arrival.
Authorities emphasize the importance of inter-agency coordination for pilgrims to have a safe and smooth journey. It is stated that pilgrims express satisfaction with the program and that their travel processes are facilitated. This initiative is considered part of Saudi Arabia's efforts to modernize Hajj services with digital innovations.
