Manchester United has reached an important stage in the transfer of Ederson, considered the first major move of the summer transfer window. The English club is reportedly very close to signing the Brazilian midfielder who currently plays for Atalanta.
It was stated that negotiations between the club and the player have entered the final phase. The completion of the transfer depends on details expected to be finalized in a meeting scheduled for today.
Transfer Fee Increased
According to the player's agent Andre Cury, the agreement is expected to exceed the previously discussed £35 million mark, with the total fee potentially reaching £40 million including bonuses. It was also noted that the bonuses will be easily attainable.
The report mentioned that only minor details remain and once resolved, Ederson is expected to become a Manchester United player for the upcoming season.
Called Up to Brazil's World Cup Squad
Another notable aspect of the process for Manchester United is Ederson's inclusion in Brazil's 2026 World Cup squad. This decision came after Roma's Wesley Franca suffered a groin injury during a friendly match against Egypt.
Brazil's national team coach Carlo Ancelotti's choice is seen as a sign of confidence in Ederson. Since Franca plays as a right-back, it was considered more beneficial for Brazil to call up midfielder Ederson.
Manchester United is reportedly carrying out a comprehensive renewal plan ahead of the new season, with Ederson viewed as one of the first major pieces of this plan. The club is also working on a move to replace experienced midfielder Casemiro.
The agreement is expected to be a four-year contract covering the upcoming season. If the transfer is finalized, Ederson will join Manchester United after the World Cup camp.
