In his message to the First International Islamic Civilization Forum that began in the capital Tashkent, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated that reviving, preserving, and promoting the unique heritage of Islamic civilization is one of the main priorities of state policy.
The forum, held on July 7-11, 2026 in Tashkent and Samarkand, is taking place under the theme "Islamic Civilization: The Path of Peace, Tolerance, and Enlightenment." More than 40 countries are represented by leading scholars, representatives of international organizations, and statesmen and public figures from diverse cultures and faiths.
According to the presidential press office, Mirziyoyev said the forum demonstrates the global community's interest in Islamic civilization and its spiritual, scientific, and cultural heritage.
In his message, Mirziyoyev noted that the world is undergoing profound transformations and said, "While humanity is achieving unprecedented successes in science and technology, it is also facing serious challenges: conflicts, mutual distrust, destructive ideas, intolerance, extremism, and Islamophobia are spreading."
The Uzbek leader pointed out that attempts to stir conflict among cultures, religions, and civilizations and to pit the traditions of different peoples against each other are increasing, and stressed that under such difficult conditions the lofty values of Islam provide a solid foundation for peace, tranquility, and enlightenment.
Referring to Uzbekistan's "Enlightenment against ignorance" concept announced from the UN podium in 2017, Mirziyoyev noted that peace, mutual understanding, and sustainable development in the modern world are founded on science, education, culture, and high moral values.
The president said Islam elevates human dignity and encourages the search for truth, knowledge, scientific discovery, and creative endeavor. He recalled the contributions of such great compatriots as al-Khwarizmi, al-Farghani, al-Biruni, Ibn Sina, Ulugh Beg, Ali-Shir Nava'i, Babur, Imam al-Bukhari, Imam al-Tirmidhi, Imam al-Maturidi, and al-Marghinani to the world's treasury of thought.
Stating that the achievements of the First and Second Renaissance periods still inspire humanity today, Mirziyoyev said that New Uzbekistan is progressing with firm steps towards building the foundations of the Third Renaissance. He stressed that this new era is founded on science, innovation, modern education, and spiritual development.
Noting that the Imam al-Bukhari Complex in Samarkand is considered one of the largest spiritual and enlightenment centers of the Islamic world, Mirziyoyev said that Uzbekistan has historically been a crossroads of civilizations and that traditions of tolerance form the basis of state policy.
Mirziyoyev stated that the call "Iqra'!" (Read!) in the Holy Quran remains a guide reminding humanity of the decisive role of science and enlightenment, and noted that this message is inscribed on the entrance gate of the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan.
The president noted that the center has rapidly become an intellectual bridge between past and future, East and West, and expressed hope that the forum will usher in a new phase of global cooperation, bringing together scholars from around the world. He stressed that Uzbekistan is ready to provide any support necessary for joint projects.
Mirziyoyev added that conferences will also be held in Samarkand and Termez as part of the forum, and wished the participants health, success, and productive deliberations.
