Saudi Arabia has created a special visa category for Turkish truck drivers transporting goods to the country.
Due to wars in the Middle East, road transport from Turkey to Saudi Arabia was not possible for many years. Following developments in Iraq and Syria, the opening of transit routes has made it possible for companies to access Saudi Arabia again.
Turkey conducted high-level contacts to enable companies to transport goods to Saudi Arabia. Issues related to transportation, particularly driver visas, were discussed. Following these contacts, Saudi Arabia took a new step regarding driver visas.
Accordingly, a new visa category has been introduced for professional drivers engaged in road transport. The multiple-entry road transport visa will cost 300 Saudi riyals (approximately 3,800 Turkish lira), while the single-entry transit transport visa will be free.
The permitted stay in the country for transit transport is four days. However, Turkey is requesting that this period be extended to 15 days, citing reasons such as Saudi Arabia's vast geography and the need for vehicle maintenance and repair.
Another demand is that the fees paid to intermediary companies for visa procurement be brought down to reasonable levels.
