The Turkish Navy frigate TCG Oruçreis participated in naval events in New York marking the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and the July 4 Independence Day.

The frigate, which will remain in New York Harbor until next Wednesday, opened its doors to the press. Ship commander Kemal Varlı told Anadolu Agency that TCG Oruçreis is one of the most important warships representing the Turkish Navy's deterrence and operational power.

Varlı emphasized that the frigate's most striking feature is its comprehensive modernization with national and indigenous defense technologies. He stated that this ensures the ship is fully adapted to future operational needs. As part of the modernization, the ship was integrated with an advanced combat management system, new-generation radars, electronic warfare capabilities, sensors, modern communication infrastructure, and command and control systems.

Commander Varlı said, 'This modernization is not just a technical operation to extend a ship's lifespan, but also a powerful reflection of Türkiye's vision of independence in its defense industry.' He added that the visit once again demonstrates Türkiye's active role within NATO and its contributions to international maritime security.

Petty Officer Mehmet Salih Yarar from the ship's crew said that this visit to New York, one of the world's most important ports, reinforces the Turkish Navy's international presence. Yarar stated that the visit is an important opportunity to introduce the discipline, maritime culture, and institutional strength of Turkish seamanship to the international public.

More than 20 countries participated in the naval events held for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and the July 4 Independence Day with military and historical ships. Representing Türkiye, TCG Oruçreis took its place in the harbor with a crew of 176. The frigate, which entered service in 1997, became the third Turkish warship to visit a US port in the last 25 years.
