The first game of the NBA Finals was played at the Frost Bank Center in Texas, and the New York Knicks emerged victorious against the San Antonio Spurs with a score of 105-95. This match, which was the Knicks' first final appearance in over twenty years, stood out as much for the battle on the court as for the famous names in the stands.
Among those watching the game was Ben Stiller, a longtime Knicks fan. Stiller was seen in the stands throughout the match; after the game, he left the arena holding his phone.
Spike Lee arrived at the arena wearing the Knicks' iconic blue and orange combination. Lee has been known as a New York Knicks season ticket holder since 1985. In 2024, he was honored as a SuperFan by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
Tracy Morgan also attended the game wearing a Knicks t-shirt and accessories. In a video he made in May, Morgan said he bought two pairs of Nike Kobe 5 "Bruce Lee" shoes for the team in 2024. Morgan also lent his voice to special announcements encouraging Knicks fans to use the subway for home games and viewing events at Madison Square Garden.
Shaquille O’Neal came to the arena in a white t-shirt and blue pants with a Superman print. Carrying a jacket with him, O’Neal also appears as a host in the pre-game and post-game broadcasts of the NBA Finals.
Timothée Chalamet was also seen in the arena before the game wearing Knicks colors. Henrik Lundqvist watched the game in a cream-colored jacket and a white-orange Knicks t-shirt. Lundqvist, who retired from ice hockey in 2021, now works as a commentator for TNT Sports.
The evening was also marked by figures from the business and sports management worlds. Disney board member Bob Iger, Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro, ESPN President Jimmy Pitaro, and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver followed the game from the stands.
During the broadcast, commentators humorously referred to this group as "a deadly lineup of executives." The NBA Finals, broadcast on ABC, which is owned by Disney, is also produced by ESPN, another Disney entity.
Before the game, Grammy-winning singer Tori Kelly performed the American national anthem. Kelly is scheduled to release her sixth studio album on June 12.
