Nilay Tahiroğlu represented Turkey at the 15th International Moscow Ballet Competition held on the Historic Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
In the competition, which featured 362 dancers from 35 countries, Tahiroğlu was exempted from the preliminary round due to her previous international achievements and was directly accepted.
While 18 contestants advanced to the final of the three-stage competition, Tahiroğlu performed in the "senior girls solo category."
While no first or second prize was awarded in the category, Tahiroğlu was the only artist deemed worthy of a special diploma award. Russian dancer Anastasia Svetlishina received a certificate, while Serbian dancer Jana Zimonjic placed third.
Volkan Ersoy: "Nilay is our champion"
Master choreographer Volkan Ersoy, who trains the ballerina, stated that a Turkish artist reaching the final on the world's most prestigious stage in Russia, considered the birthplace of ballet, was a great achievement.
With this achievement, Nilay Tahiroğlu became the only Turkish artist to have her name written in golden letters on the awards page in Russia. I am sure that her path and career will now advance with great strides. She competed on a very difficult stage. The Bolshoi Stage is a raked stage and one of the rare stages in the world. Moreover, holding the final round of a competition with a live orchestra is unparalleled in the world. In such a setting, under difficult conditions, with great stress management and mental preparation, representing our country to this point is already a source of pride. Nilay is our champion.
