Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus stated that sectarian and ethnic differences in the Islamic world should be seen as a source of richness and should not be turned into conflict.
Kurtulmus made the statement to journalists during the 20th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
"Differences of opinion, political differences, ethnic and sectarian divisions among Islamic countries should not be turned into conflict. On the contrary, we should see this situation as a richness," Kurtulmus said, emphasizing that the unipolar global system has ended and a new multipolar international order has emerged.
Kurtulmus drew attention to the importance of Islamic countries taking a position in the face of the profound shocks and transformations the world is experiencing. Stating that wars, tensions and crises are harbingers of a new era, Kurtulmus said, "This period is actually a birth pang. The contours of a new world are being shaped and entirely new centers will emerge. We are entering a new world dominated by multipolarity."
Pointing out that the Islamic geography, with a population of approximately 2 billion, is one of the world's most important strategic transit points, Kurtulmus noted that the Islamic world needs a new reform process at institutional, political and intellectual levels.
Kurtulmus added that new opportunities are emerging in the fields of science, technology, industry and advanced technology, and that Islamic countries have a strong infrastructure in these areas.
