Following the incidents in Sanliurfa and Kahramanmaras, the Turkish parliament's Commission to Investigate the Causes of School Attacks heard representatives from non-governmental organizations. The commission, convened under the chairmanship of AK Party Tokat Deputy Yusuf Beyazit, examined the risks children face in digital platforms and the multi-dimensional causes of school violence.
'Family, the Foundation of Peace and Security'
Istanbul Family Foundation Board Chairman Uner Karabiyik stated in his presentation that school attacks are often the final stage of a long process shaped within the family, peer circles, and digital media. Karabiyik said, "These incidents are not just a matter of school safety; they are also a matter of child protection, youth policies, and social resilience." According to research findings, 82.9% of participants believe that the harm of digital media on children outweighs its benefits. "These rates show us that society is aware of the digital risks children face and that regulations are a strong societal expectation," Karabiyik said, adding: "According to our research, while the rate of happiness, peace and security in the family is 94%, this rate drops to 56% at the national level. As exposure to content that generates pressure, distress and anxiety increases, the sense of belonging weakens."
