World Cup celebrations in Mexico turn into tragedy: 3 people die from suffocation
After Mexico's 2026 FIFA World Cup victory over Ecuador, three people died from suffocation during celebrations in Mexico City.
According to BBC, celebrations were held in the capital Mexico City after Mexico's 2-0 victory over Ecuador's national team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to a statement from the city administration, more than 1 million people took to the streets for the celebrations. During the celebrations, two women aged 19 and 48 and a 44-year-old man died from suffocation.
In a written statement, Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada called on fans to act with "responsibility, care and empathy" during celebrations.
