Underwater excavations off Kekova Island in Antalya, led by the Antalya Museum Directorate under the scientific supervision of Assoc. Prof. Hakan Öniz, have recovered amphorae about 4,700 years old. Türkiye's Culture and Tourism Ministry describes the remains as belonging to the world's oldest known shipwreck. Clay analysis suggests the amphorae may have been made in workshops in the Jordan Valley.
