Protest wave in Italy: two days of clashes in Milan

The cost-of-living protests in France spread to Italy. Demonstrations held in Milan, Turin and Bologna on Oct. 17 at the call of the “Italia in Piazza” network turned into clashes with police; 28 people were arrested nationwide and 104 members of the security forces were treated in Milan hospitals. Unrest flared again in Milan on Sunday in Piazza del Duomo, where police used water cannons and tear gas. Prime Minister Meloni said: “Protesting is a right, setting our cities on fire is not.” The gallery features photos and videos from the streets of Milan.
