The Financial Branch teams of the Istanbul Police Department conducted an investigation into organized credit fraud under the coordination of the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The investigation revealed that the suspects divided tasks among themselves for vehicle procurement, selecting individuals for credit transactions, and appraisal processes.
During the examination, it was found that heavily damaged vehicles, those affected by earthquakes, and those involved in traffic accidents were falsely reported as undamaged or intact through fabricated appraisal reports. As a result, the loans obtained through this method were not repaid, causing financial losses to the intermediary institution.
Simultaneous Operation Conducted in 14 Provinces
After identifying the suspects' identities and addresses, simultaneous operations were carried out in Istanbul, Kocaeli, Gaziantep, Sakarya, Mardin, Bursa, Manisa, Şanlıurfa, Erzurum, Muğla, Adana, Aksaray, İzmir, Ankara, and Iğdır.
During the operation, 27 suspects were detained and taken to the police station for processing.
How Did the Alleged Method Work?
It was determined that the suspects took on different roles at various stages, from procuring damaged and accident-affected vehicles to selecting individuals for credit transactions. The investigation revealed that false reports prepared through appraisal companies portrayed the condition of the vehicles as better than they actually were.
Based on the documents and evidence obtained, it was assessed that the suspects acted in an organized manner to exploit the credit system using this method. The investigation continues under the coordination of the police and the prosecutor's office.
