Forty-four silver artisans who acquired traditional knowledge and skills through the master-apprentice tradition received Intangible Cultural Heritage Bearer cards at a ceremony at the Istanbul Jewelers' Chamber in the Fatih district.
Serkan Emir Erkmen, deputy director general for living heritage and cultural events, said his directorate is responsible for a broad field ranging from traditional cuisine and folk dances to clothing and handicrafts, and uses the card to recognize masters who carry traditional knowledge. Istanbul's provincial culture and tourism director, Hüseyin Keskin, proposed programs and workshops to pass the craft on to younger generations.

Mustafa Atayık, president of the Istanbul Jewelers' Chamber, said apprentices are no longer being trained in silverware, noting that Türkiye's contribution to the field worldwide is very large and that they had worked on the card for two years.
