Eight suspects were arrested in Istanbul during an investigation into ISIS's financial sources. The operation was carried out by the Istanbul Police Department's Counter-Terrorism Branch under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
It was reported that the suspects gave the impression of humanitarian aid in their money transfers, but it was determined that many individuals were not registered with any civil society organization. Notes such as "aid," "for a sister in need," "rent assistance," and "needs" were found in the transfer explanations during the investigation.
According to officials' assessments, the amounts transferred to many individuals with criminal records indicated that these were not within the scope of aid. Therefore, suspicion arose that the money movements were intended to finance the organization.
Simultaneous raids were conducted at the identified addresses in Istanbul. During the operation, 1 unlicensed firearm, 2 blank pistols, numerous cutting and stabbing tools, and digital materials were seized.
Procedures regarding the detained suspects are ongoing. The seized digital materials are being examined to uncover the flow of money and connections.
