As the Scotland National Team prepares to take the field for the World Cup for the first time in 28 years, a new anthem to accompany the team has arrived from Belle and Sebastian. The Glasgow-based indie-pop band released the song "It Only Takes One Lion" to listeners today. The song stands out as a personal work that tells of the ups and downs Scotland's national team has experienced over the last 50 years. Stuart Murdoch said the piece spontaneously came about the day after the Denmark match and tries to reflect the whole country's experience of following the national team. The production and co-writing of the song were handled by Pete Ferguson. The track highlights messages of support for the tournament and the sense of unity among Scottish fans. Belle and Sebastian are also conducting a tour celebrating the 30th anniversaries of the Tigermilk and If You’re Feeling Sinister albums. Tigermilk was released on June 6, 1996. The text also refers to Scotland's draw with the Netherlands in their first match at the 1996 European Championship. It recalls how the team then lost to England, defeated Switzerland, and narrowly missed advancing from the group stage, which caused great disappointment nationwide at the time. It is noted that the subsequent If You’re Feeling Sinister album somewhat alleviated that morale slump in the country. Now, all eyes are on the new anthem prepared for Scotland's World Cup campaign.
