Illinois-based DJ and producer John Summit will be among the headliners of this year's Lollapalooza festival in Chicago. The festival will be held as usual at Grant Park from July 30 to August 2. Summit's name ranks at the top of the festival alongside Lorde, Charli XCX, The Smashing Pumpkins, Olivia Dean, Jennie, Tate McRae, and The xx. Recognized as one of the prominent figures in the electronic music scene, Summit is still not equally known among pop music listeners. The artist shared that some internet users commented, "Who is John Summit?" in response to him. Following these reactions, he said that although he has secured a major main stage opportunity, he still needs to convince many people. Summit also mentioned that dance music artists have to prove themselves more compared to pop stars. He stated that his music finds a place on dance charts, but the same does not apply to pop charts. Summit argued that there are different dynamics between dance and pop in the music industry, explaining that singles and success within a specific genre are more decisive in dance music. According to him, electronic record labels also play a guiding role in identifying new sounds, different from their counterparts in pop. Summit's rise dates back to his career starting in 2017. The artist reached a wide audience with his 2020 house track "Deep End," released his first album "Comfort In Chaos" in July 2024, and released his second album "Ctrl Escape" this year. Seen as one of the important names in the tech-house line of electronic music, Summit is also the founder of the Experts Only record label. However, he is less known in pop music circles, and his big breakthrough at Lollapalooza brought this difference back into focus. The artist's Lollapalooza headline holds special meaning following his statement that he decided to become a DJ after watching deadmau5 at the same festival a few years ago. At that time, he said that performance was decisive in his turn towards electronic music. Summit also performed at Coachella this year. However, his set on the Do LaB stage made headlines due to reports that one of the speakers fell and injured an audience member.
