The Istanbul Governorship has banned entry to forested areas across the province from June 8 to October 15, 2026, to mitigate the increased risk of fires during the summer months. Along with this decision, lighting fires in and around forests during this period will also be prohibited.
The ban includes lighting fires for barbecues, gas cylinders, samovars, hookahs, and similar reasons. Burning stubble within forests, adjacent areas, and connected regions is also prohibited.
The statement clarified that burning trees, branches, and any kind of vegetation for the purpose of cleaning vineyards, gardens, olive groves, and fields will not be allowed. These measures aim to prevent forest fires and protect natural areas.
The Governorship announced that inspections will be intensified by relevant authorities. Administrative and legal actions will be taken against those who violate the rules in accordance with the applicable legislation.
It was noted that in designated picnic and recreational areas, groves, parks, nature parks, and ecotourism zones in Istanbul, activities such as picnicking, walking, and sports can continue without restrictions.
Authorities urged citizens to show necessary sensitivity to fire risks. The bans on forest access during the summer will be strictly enforced throughout the city with rigorous inspections.
