The 92-minute action film Onslaught, starring Adria Arjona, will hit theaters on September 4. TME Films is handling the film's distribution.
The film follows a former army sniper mother living in a trailer park in the desert as she fights to protect her family from an unexpected threat.
Facing genetically modified super-soldiers
The character's life changes when a rogue unit of genetically modified super-soldiers, released from a nearby military facility, infiltrates the area. As she faces enemies named Cockroach, Crybaby and The Butcher alone, the mother relies on her military skills and survival instincts.
Written by Wingard and Simon Barrett, the film is produced by Simon Barrett and Jon Rosenberg. The cast also includes Alex Pereira and Drew Starkey alongside Arjona.
Kerem Akça offers a positive assessment
Film critic Kerem Akça said the director maintained his distinctive approach, drawing attention to the film's connection with Adam Wingard's earlier productions.
Akça said the film belongs to the same universe as The Guest and You're Next, adding that Onslaught could be considered the year's best fictional American film.
Akça said the film continues Wingard's distinctive approach to action and revenge films. He assessed that the production has a retro texture and evolves into a self-destructive form through its found-footage approach.
Akça also said the film could eventually become a cult action production, that the title Onslaught suits the film and that the production could rank among Wingard's best films.
