Three of the 56 suspects detained as part of an investigation conducted by the Adana Chief Public Prosecutor's Office were released after questioning by prosecutors.
Forty-four suspects, including Alparslan Kuytul, the founding chairman of the shut-down Furkan Education and Services Foundation, and his wife, Semra Kuytul, were referred to the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for their arrest. Nine suspects were referred with a request for judicial control measures.
The judgeship ordered the arrest of Alparslan Kuytul and Semra Kuytul. Proceedings against the other 51 suspects continue.
Operation conducted in six provinces
Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced on August 19 that a simultaneous operation had been conducted at 49 locations across six provinces, centered on Adana, against the group known publicly as the “Kuytul group.”
Gürlek said judicial proceedings had been initiated against 32 suspects as part of the investigation on charges of “establishing and managing a criminal organization,” “membership in an organization,” “laundering assets derived from crime,” “qualified fraud,” “forgery of official documents” and “violating the Tax Procedure Law.”
It was announced that access-blocking orders had been issued for 349 social media accounts considered to be conducting activities in favor of the group, and that trustees had been appointed to manage five companies.
Number of detainees rises to 56
Teams from the Provincial Police Department's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch detained 32 suspects in the operation on August 19. The total rose to 56 after 24 more suspects were detained.
As part of the investigation, authorities determined that rooms protected by a coded door were located in the group's administrative building on Abidinpaşa Avenue in Seyhan district. Some computer towers were removed from the building, while the hard drives were removed from others.
After examining security camera footage around the building, the teams identified the suspects who removed the evidence. The recovered computer towers and hard drives were examined.
The 56 suspects, including Alparslan Kuytul and Semra Kuytul, were referred to the courthouse after their procedures at the police department were completed.
