The testimony of Alper Çelik, a co-founder of the Ahbap Association who was arrested as part of the investigation, has emerged. Çelik, who has a criminal record for 'qualified theft', 'fraud', 'using unpaid bills' and 'illegal betting', stated that he wants to benefit from effective remorse provisions.
In his testimony, Çelik said that Haluk Levent used his accounts for betting and stock market transactions. He recounted that he asked Levent whether the money was association money, but Levent told him that 'such a thing was never the case, and that he played the stock market and bet with loans he took from friends'.
Alper Çelik stated that he lent money to Haluk Levent and is owed money. He said that Levent sometimes sent him to a currency exchange office in the Grand Bazaar, had him collect foreign currency and Turkish lira from there, and then deposited this money into the accounts he used to make betting and stock market payments.
Çelik said he knows that some goods purchased with donations rotted in warehouses and did not reach the necessary places. He claimed that Deniz, who works in the association's purchasing unit, was aware of this situation.
