Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev sent a congratulatory message to the participants of the international events organized on the occasion of Andijan city being declared the 'Turkic World Cultural Capital' for 2026.
According to a statement released by the presidential press service on Wednesday, June 24, Mirziyoyev emphasized that this decision is a great honor for Andijan and constitutes another proof of the international recognition of Uzbekistan's cultural heritage.
Gratitude to TURKSOY
Mirziyoyev expressed his gratitude to the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) and the member states for declaring Andijan the cultural capital of the Turkic world. He greeted the directors of international organizations present at the ceremony, ambassadors of foreign countries, and leading cultural, literary, and artistic representatives of the Turkic world.
The Uzbek leader noted that ancient Andijan is located at the crossroads of the Silk Road and has been one of the important centers of culture, literature, art, and craftsmanship for centuries. Describing Andijan as Uzbekistan's gateway to the East, Mirziyoyev stated that this land has raised great commanders, statesmen, distinguished scientists, thinkers, talented poets, writers, and artists.
Emphasis on cultural cooperation
The president praised Uzbekistan's cooperation with TURKSOY in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage. In this context, he recalled the 100-volume publication 'Pearls of Turkic Literature', joint scientific conferences, forums, cultural events, and presentations.
Mirziyoyev also specifically highlighted the opening of a TURKSOY office at the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan in April of this year. He noted that representatives of Uzbekistan's art and culture have successfully participated in TURKSOY's prestigious forums, festivals, and competitions.
Throughout the year, festivals, scientific conferences, art nights, and creative meetings will be organized in Uzbekistan and brotherly countries within the framework of the 'Andijan - Turkic World Cultural Capital' project. Mirziyoyev expressed his belief that these events will become important milestones in cultural life, strengthen the friendship and solidarity of Turkic peoples, and create new opportunities for the younger generation.
