Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan accepted the government's resignation on the day the new parliament held its first session. The decision took effect with a presidential decree signed by Khachaturyan.
Under the Armenian Constitution, the government submits its resignation to the president on the first session day of the National Assembly. The constitution also stipulates that the president shall immediately appoint the candidate nominated by the parliamentary majority as prime minister after the newly elected parliament's term begins.
As a result of this process, current Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is expected to form the government again.
