Regional Negotiation Process
The Washington and Tehran administrations had signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18 and started negotiations to reach a final agreement. However, the process had stalled due to disagreements over the safety and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most strategic chokepoints for global energy and trade.
On February 28, the US and Israel launched an attack on Iran, and according to Tehran's statement, more than 3,000 people were killed. In Iran's retaliatory attacks, American and Israeli soldiers were reportedly killed.
