President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan devoted substantial attention to the situation in Gaza and the Palestinian issue in his address to the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
Erdoğan said that tens of thousands of Palestinians, most of them women and children, had lost their lives in Gaza over the past three years, drawing attention to the ongoing humanitarian devastation in the region.
Erdoğan said that people in Gaza were still searching for their loved ones beneath the rubble and that families were trying to recover the bodies of their spouses, children and parents from under the debris.
President Erdoğan also addressed the absence of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas from the UN General Assembly. Erdoğan said Abbas had been unable to take his place in the General Assembly hall for two years and described the situation as an injustice to the Palestinian people.
Emphasizing that Türkiye would continue to bring Palestine’s voice to the international public despite Abbas’s absence from the hall, Erdoğan said they would continue to make the Palestinian people’s struggle for a free and sovereign state heard around the world from the UN podium.
