Gürsel Baran, president of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce, presented the Ankara Report, prepared on the development of Ankara’s economy and trade, to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The report addressed issues on the Ankara business community’s agenda, as well as the impact on businesses of conditions in which access to financing has become more difficult and financing costs have increased. It said businesses were experiencing cash-flow problems and that trade was continuing through sales on credit.
Report proposes VAT regulation
The report, which included assessments from members of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce, drew attention to the impact of the Value Added Tax obligation on businesses’ cash flow and working capital.
It proposed that the VAT payment deadline be determined by taking into account the collection period for the commercial transaction. It called for a regulation allowing the VAT payment obligation to be deferred for three or six months for transactions whose sales proceeds had not yet been collected.
Transport and trade proposals for Ankara
Baran said they had presented Erdoğan with the Ankara business community’s expectations and proposals, as well as measures that would accelerate the capital’s economic and commercial development.
Baran said the tender phase for the metro line extending from Ankara High-Speed Train Station to Esenboğa Airport had been completed, adding that the line would increase Ankara’s potential in trade, tourism and investment.
Baran also provided information about ongoing efforts to increase direct flights in order to strengthen Ankara’s connections with foreign countries. The establishment of a free zone in Ankara and the Outlet Village Project were also discussed at the meeting.
