At Fenerbahçe's Extraordinary General Assembly, Aziz Yıldırım was elected president with 17,245 votes. Returning to the presidency after 8 years, Yıldırım stated, "We will not hold grudges against each other; we will embrace one another because Fenerbahçe needs unity and solidarity." Aziz Yıldırım was chosen as the club's 35th president at the Extraordinary General Assembly of Fenerbahçe Sports Club with 17,245 votes.
In the election, Hakan Safi received 9,927 votes. Out of 27,387 votes cast, 27,172 were valid, 135 invalid, and 80 blank. After the results were announced, Aziz Yıldırım was invited to the podium and said that the winner was not himself or his team, but Fenerbahçe. He congratulated his opponent Hakan Safi and his team and stressed that the community must now act in unity.
He continued:
"Today, our community held an election, but the winner is Fenerbahçe. It is not Aziz Yıldırım and his friends. From now on, we hope that Mr. Hakan Safi and all the respected individuals we mentioned come together. We congratulate them as well. They also made beautiful chants today. Hopefully, we will all cheer together for our players in this stadium and become champions.
We will not hold grudges against each other; we will embrace one another because Fenerbahçe needs unity and solidarity. Division is wrong. This community is great. Everyone knows the greatness of the Fenerbahçe community. Only we try to destroy this greatness by dividing ourselves. We will not allow that.
Now, we have formed a board with valuable people, and I will work with them using my past experience. Our promise is a championship. Whatever reinforcements are needed, know that we will definitely make them within 15 days. Do not worry about this. Also, Mr. Nihat and his team will start working to expand this stadium.
There are projects to increase the club's financial value. We will implement them. You elected me today with over 17,000 votes at a congress with the highest participation in Fenerbahçe's history. For this, I am grateful to you, and together with these friends, we will surely repay our debt to you. We will not leave without paying; we will do so within a year. Let everyone know this.
