The incident occurred in Aratol Bahçeli Neighborhood. According to information received, Ergün (53) was reported missing by his ex-wife on June 2 after she lost contact with him. Following the report, the Provincial Police Department's Public Order Branch teams began a search operation.

During the search efforts, the individual was found motionless by an irrigation canal five days later. Medical teams arriving at the scene confirmed his death, and law enforcement began an investigation into the incident. Rahim Ergün had previously come to public attention in March when his mother, suffering from Alzheimer's, forgot him and did not let him into the house, an event that was also captured on camera.
