German goalkeeper Alexander Nübel, who joined Beşiktaş from Bayern Munich, made statements on the black-and-white club's YouTube channel. Nübel, noting that the transfer process took a long time, said the first contact was made while he was with the German national team at the World Cup.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper, relaying that his agent informed him of Beşiktaş's interest, said, "A big club and crazy fans... Those were the first things that came to mind when I heard the offer." He stated that, in addition to his talks with the head coach and sporting director, his communication with German-born Eduard Graf accelerated the process.
Goal: Derby victory and a trophy
Nübel also shared his expectations for his Beşiktaş career. "First of all, I want to get a derby victory. I want to feel that atmosphere and energy," said the experienced goalkeeper, emphasizing that he wants to experience special nights in European competitions and win trophies. "I am eager to meet the Beşiktaş fans at our stadium. I am very excited to play my first match," he added.
World Cup experience
Nübel, who was in the Germany squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, said that despite their elimination from the tournament, the experience was very valuable for him. "We lost to Paraguay on penalties. Still, participating in the World Cup is every child's dream. Being in the squad is an achievement. As the third goalkeeper, I tried to contribute to my team," he said. He added that goalkeeping is not just about technique but also a matter of character.
Idol Neuer, calm playing style
Alexander Nübel stated that the biggest inspiration in his football career is Manuel Neuer, saying, "I was very young and he was getting better every day. He was a huge inspiration for my style and development." The German goalkeeper, explaining that Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann also helped him, commented on his playing style: "I have a calm game, focused on saving the ball. I want to save every ball that comes. I am also good at catching balls from corners."
