Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, speaking to CNN on the sidelines of the G7 Leaders Summit held in Évian-les-Bains, France, shared his views on the agreement reached between the US and Iran.
Carney said he had seen the agreement and that it exceeded his expectations. He expressed that Canada is very pleased with the deal and emphasized its importance in reducing tensions in the region.
He noted that the agreement, which acts as a ceasefire for a 60-day period, is a reasonable timeframe and aims to end hostilities. Within this context, he described the deal as a well-prepared arrangement.
Prime Minister Carney also addressed the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, stating that Canada will provide support to the best of its ability.
The US-Iran agreement was previously announced by Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garibabadi confirmed the deal, stating that the memorandum of understanding would be signed in Switzerland on June 19.
US President Donald Trump also stated that the peace agreement with Iran was finalized, the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened, and the US naval blockade would be lifted immediately.
Statements indicating that the agreement also covers Lebanon sparked debate in Israel, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz asserting that they would not withdraw from the areas they occupy in southern Lebanon.
