Melis Sütşurup Sandal, wife of pop singer Mustafa Sandal, is among 42 individuals whose assets were frozen in the investment fund investigation led by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, and she has also been banned from leaving the country.
According to the investigation file, she withdrew 11.13 billion lira from funds ordered liquidated by the Capital Markets Board (SPK). The issue first surfaced when journalist Yiğit Uzun alleged that she had withdrawn about 11.5 billion lira from the funds over the past three months.
Mustafa Sandal’s manager Tekin Önal said the allegations concern Melis Sütşurup Sandal and that there is no direct transaction or accusation involving the singer. Her lawyer Mehmet Ali Çelebi said the transactions were entirely legal, compliant with regulations and transparent, arguing that withdrawing from funds under liquidation is every partner’s right, and said they would challenge the measures in court.
Prosecutors have frozen the assets of 46 legal entities, 18 funds and 42 individuals in the investigation and imposed travel bans on 37 suspects.
