In a Tuesday post on X, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla blamed the US embargo for the recurring power outages that have hit the country recently.
Rodríguez Parrilla said, "The outages in the National Electric System (SEN) are direct consequences of the US's genocidal blockade against Cuba, especially the energy siege."
The minister said, "The latter not only prevents the free import of fuels but also blocks the entry of parts and equipment needed for the SEN, prevents collaboration with experts from other countries, and makes access to international financing more difficult."
The statement came after yet another nationwide power grid collapse in Cuba. In recent months, a series of major outages have disrupted electricity supply across the island.
The US Embassy in Havana on Monday warned US citizens currently in Cuba or planning to travel to the island to be prepared for widespread disruptions, including mobile phone and internet outages.
The embassy said, "Cuba's power grid is becoming increasingly unstable," and noted that the latest outage was the sixth total grid failure in 2026, with three occurring in July alone.
