Turkish salmon exports from the Eastern Black Sea approached $60 million in the first five months of the year. During the January-May period, 8,743 tons of Turkish salmon were exported from the region, generating revenue of $59,878,937.
Hasan Kuzuoğlu, Chairman of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters' Association Fisheries Sector Committee, stated that Turkish salmon was shipped to 13 countries from the region during this period.
Russia Takes the Lead
According to Kuzuoğlu, Russia ranked first in Turkish salmon exports from the region during the January-May period. Sales to Russia amounted to $35,271,343, followed by Belarus with $19,095,959 and Japan with $2,992,477.
This data shows that Russia is the strongest buyer in the Turkish salmon market. The revenue distribution for the first five months also reveals that a limited number of markets dominate the exports.
Trabzon at the Heart of Regional Exports
It was noted that 75% of Eastern Black Sea exports were made from Trabzon. During the same period, 6,418 tons of Turkish salmon were exported from the city to 12 countries.
The exports from Trabzon generated $44,834,826 in revenue. Kuzuoğlu noted that the top three export destinations from the city were Russia, Belarus, and Vietnam.
Increase Compared to Last Year
Kuzuoğlu reported a 6% increase in both volume and value of Turkish salmon exports in the region compared to the same period last year. In Trabzon, this increase reached around 10% in both volume and value.
Emphasizing high expectations for Turkish salmon, Kuzuoğlu said they are working to further boost exports. He added that they expect sales to rise even more in the coming days.
