President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, speaking after a Cabinet meeting, said Türkiye condemned “in the strongest terms” the Houthi attacks on Oct. 10 targeting Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, which killed 12 people and injured 309.
Noting that pilgrims performing umrah were among the victims, Erdoğan said: “Türkiye stands with Saudi Arabia and our Saudi brothers against these unlawful and inhumane attacks.”
“Sending it to parliament for ratification”
Erdoğan said work continues on building the institutional framework of the joint defense agreement signed on Aug. 7 with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, known as the Mecca Agreement. He said defense cooperation is moving on two tracks: collective defense and regional cooperation, and a permanent, functioning institutional structure.

“As in NATO, activities under the joint defense agreement will be carried out on the basis of our national legislation. Work is underway to submit the agreement to our Grand National Assembly in the coming days to complete domestic ratification.”
“We never look at events through a sectarian lens”
Erdoğan said tensions were rising along a line stretching from Lebanon to Yemen and Iran, with different agendas being pursued through proxy forces, and stressed that Türkiye favors resolving disputes at the negotiating table rather than on the battlefield. “We never look at events through an ethnic or sectarian lens. We want peace and stability to prevail across our entire region,” he said.
