Fabio Miretti discussed his development, his loan spell at Genoa and his decision to join Beşiktaş on the club’s YouTube channel.
The 23-year-old Italian footballer said making his professional debut for Juventus was a great source of pride. Miretti said that as a child he focused more on having fun than on becoming a footballer, but that he was proud of how far he had come in his career.
Pavel Nedved was Miretti’s idol
Miretti said Juventus legend Pavel Nedved was his idol during his childhood. The footballer said he was very young when Nedved was playing, but grew his hair like Nedved’s and that his mother still talks about the memory.
He sees his time at Genoa as important to his development
Fabio Miretti said he had the opportunity to play regularly at Genoa, where he spent the 2024–2025 season on loan, and that the spell contributed to his development. Miretti said he did not make a good start to the season, but that dealing with the difficulties was beneficial for him and that things fell into place during the remainder of the campaign.
The Italian footballer said he played in more advanced areas at Genoa and that he felt most comfortable as a central midfielder, in other words, as a No. 8. Miretti said he could play in different areas of midfield and had also featured as a No. 10 and a No. 6 during his youth and senior careers.
He spoke with Kenan Yıldız and Zeki Çelik
Miretti said he spoke with Kenan Yıldız, who played for Juventus before joining Beşiktaş, and Zeki Çelik before his transfer. He said both players told him that Istanbul was a beautiful city and that Beşiktaş was a major team and club.
Miretti said Zeki Çelik prepared him for what he needed to do when he arrived in Istanbul and provided positive information about Beşiktaş and its community.
Italiano influenced his decision to transfer
Fabio Miretti said he knew Beşiktaş head coach Vincenzo Italiano strongly wanted him in his squad. Miretti said they had not yet discussed which position he would play on the field, but that he admired the Italian coach’s perspective on football and that Italiano was an important factor in his decision to join Beşiktaş.
