Italian Mario Gabrieli and his 11-year-old son Leonardo, who set off from Sydney, Australia on a 50-year-old Vespa motorcycle, reached Turkey as part of their world tour. The father and son entered Trabzon via Azerbaijan and Georgia, and then moved on to Samsun.

10-Month World Tour
The 54-year-old Gabrieli, born in Trieste and living in Australia for over 20 years, prepared extensively before the trip, wanting to give his son an unforgettable adventure and introduce him to different countries and cultures. As part of the project they named "I Due Caschi," meaning "Two Helmets," they continued overland from Indonesia after sea crossings by ferries and ships. The duo, who crossed Southeast Asian and Central Asian countries, aims to cover a total of about 40,000 kilometers.
The journey, which started on January 5 and is planned to last 10 months, continued with the help of people they met along the way despite technical issues. Mario Gabrieli said, "Trieste and Italy are where I was born. I wanted to take Leonardo to my hometown. Traveling the world on a Vespa seemed like a good idea. It's important for me that he gets to know new countries, religions, geography, and history." Leonardo, meanwhile, stated that the journey has been very interesting and that he remembers the Pamir Highway in Kyrgyzstan the most.

Warm Welcome in Samsun
The father and son were hosted in Samsun by the Atakum Sailing Sports Club. Club vice president Selma Karahmet Balcı stated that they invited the guests through the Beşikdüzü Sailing and Nature Sports Club in Trabzon, saying, "We have been hosting them since yesterday and will see them off tomorrow. We wanted Leonardo to have a sailing experience with our athletes, so we arranged a short sailing trip for him today."
Balcı shared the following information about the duo's Turkey route: "They will presumably head to Amasya tomorrow, then to Cappadocia and Antalya, after which they will leave Turkey. They plan to complete their journey in Trieste." Mario Gabrieli, meanwhile, described Samsun as "a perfect city."
