A fire broke out on the Greek-flagged Ro-Ro cargo and vehicle carrier BLUE CARRIER 2 as it sailed north of Greece’s Mykonos Island on the morning of September 25, 2026.
Initial information indicated that the fire started in the ship’s garage area, where the vehicles were stored. Investigators are examining the possibility that the fire may have started in a truck, while an investigation into its exact cause has been launched.
There were 195 vehicles aboard the ship: 166 trucks and 29 cars. A total of 29 people were on board, including 28 crew members and one truck driver.
Emergency procedures were activated after the fire, and all 29 people aboard the ship were evacuated. The evacuees were taken to rescue boats and transported safely to Tinos Island with the assistance of other vessels in the area.

Initial statements said that all those evacuated were in good health. No fatalities or injuries had been reported in the incident at that point.
The Hellenic Coast Guard, firefighting crews, tugboats and support vessels in the area were mobilized to respond to the fire. Firefighting helicopters also supported the operation.
Authorities are working both to bring the fire fully under control and to assess the condition of the vehicles and the ship. The investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.
