The Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education announced that the 2026-2027 academic year will begin on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026.

On the first day of the new academic year, 2.8 million students, 161,453 teachers and approximately 19,000 school buses will take to the roads across the city. Class schedules were adjusted to prevent congestion caused by parents driving students to school from disrupting transportation.

Accordingly, on Monday, Sept. 14, first lessons at all public and private primary schools, middle schools and high schools in Istanbul will be held between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The arrangement aims to ensure that students and teachers reach their schools safely and that traffic within the city operates smoothly and under control.
