Turgay Tamer, 66, a former doctor at the Silivri prison campus who was detained in the reopened investigation into the 2011 death of former intelligence officer Kaşif Kozinoğlu and later released under judicial control, was found dead at his home in Istanbul’s Büyükçekmece district.
His wife, returning from abroad, found him motionless in the living room. Initial checks at the scene found nothing suspicious, and Tamer was reported to have been diabetic. His body was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute to establish the exact cause of death.
Tamer was among nine people detained in the second wave of the investigation in September. Three were arrested, while six, including Tamer, were released with a travel ban. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had said Tamer was not a forensic specialist and had carried out no medical procedure on Kozinoğlu.
Kozinoğlu fell ill at Silivri Prison on November 12, 2011, and died on the way to hospital. The case was reopened about 15 years later after a Silivri court overturned an earlier decision not to prosecute.
