Greece is considering moving the Patriot air-defense missile battery deployed on Karpathos Island in March to the Souda Military Base on Crete.
The option is being considered amid rising tensions in the Middle East and the possibility that Iran could damage U.S. targets in Europe.
A threat assessment will be conducted before the move
If it is concluded that the Souda Military Base faces a significant threat, the battery is planned to be moved from Karpathos to Souda.
The relocation of the Patriot system is intended to provide more comprehensive protection for military bases on Crete and contribute to the air-defense capacity of the southeastern Aegean. The battery was deployed to Karpathos Island in March, citing developments in Iran and the Middle East as the reason.
