World-renowned coach Pep Guardiola has delivered a message of support for Palestine. In a video recorded for the Spanish office of UNRWA, the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, the Manchester City manager said: “Silence today is a way of taking sides. But we cannot look the other way.”
Guardiola stressed that those killed in Gaza are not mere numbers: “They are people with names, faces, families, dreams and memories. When we stop naming things and accept a language that hides the pain, we begin to lose our humanity.”
“Their lives are as valuable as ours”
Saying the Israeli government has killed more than 74,000 people in Gaza to date, Guardiola added: “Their lives are as valuable as ours. Their pain is not foreign to us. Let us not forget that.”
“We admire the resilience of the Palestinian people. But they should not have to be resilient,” he said. “No people should have to prove their ability to endure suffering for generations. No child should grow up learning to survive before learning to live.”

Call to support UNRWA
Guardiola also criticized the obstruction of humanitarian aid and home demolitions and forced displacement in the West Bank. Urging those who can to support UNRWA, which has provided health care, education and protection to Palestinian refugees for more than 75 years, he said: “Palestine matters, and Palestine needs justice and peace.”
The Spanish coach has spoken out on Gaza before, saying in 2025 as he received an honorary degree from the University of Manchester that what was happening there “hurts my whole body.”
