The Tawfieq Mosque in Schelle, Belgium, was targeted by unidentified individuals before Friday prayers on 4 September.
The mosque’s board of directors said they were deeply shocked by the incident. Hate messages and swastikas were drawn on the doors and windows, while dog feces was poured at the mosque’s entrance.
The board filed a complaint with the police over the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
Mohamed Amin Chaib, head of the Belgian Muslim Rights Monitoring Organization, argued that the incident was not an isolated act of vandalism. Chaib described the act as a “disgusting and clear indication” of anti-Muslim hatred and called on local authorities to increase security at mosques.
